Claudio Novati is considered one of the most promising conductors of his generation uniting clarity, expression and deep musicality in his gestures.
Born in Como, Italy, he has been serving as a Kapellmeister at the Bruckner Orchester / Landestheater Linz, Austria, since 2020. Beforehand he gained experience as the choir director of the Theatre in Hof and as an assistant conductor of the Theatre in Heidelberg. Besides this, he taught as a lecturer for organ, improvisation and continuo at the University of Music in Weimar.
In 2019 he was awarded the second Prize in the conducting competition of the MDR Symphony Orchestra in Leipzig, same as the German Academic Exchange Service honoured him with the DAAD Prize for his outstanding musical and academic achievements. In 2023 he won the third Prize at the prestigious German Conducting Award in Cologne as well as the second Prize at the international conducting competition “Forcolin” in Padova. From 2013 to 2019 he received a scholarship of the Cusanuswerk Foundation and in 2021 he was selected among the “Maestros of Tomorrow” by the German Music Council, gaining a prominent place in the new generation of conductors.
Claudio Novati enjoys a continuously increasing international reputation thanks to his stylistic versatility in both the symphonic and operatic repertoire. He has conducted several orchestras, such as the MDR Symphony Orchestra Leipzig, the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne, the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne, the Robert-Schumann-Philharmonie Chemnitz, the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra, the Wuppertal Symphony Orchestra, the Heidelberg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Jena Philharmonie, the Hof Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonie Südwestfalen, the Elbland Philharmonie Sachsen, the Württembergischen Philharmonie Reutlingen, the Camerata Strumentale Prato, the Karlovarský symfonický orchestr and the Filharmonie Hradec Králové.
He is an outstanding artist having graduated in orchestral conducting (cum laude), choir conducting, composition, organ (cum laude) and church music at the Conservatory of Music in Como and the University of Music in Weimar in the classes of Nicolás Pasquet, Ekhart Wycik, Michael Kapsner and Enrico Viccardi.
His repertoire ranges from early to contemporary music, having a particular liking for Johann Sebastian Bach and the Italian Opera of the 18th and 19th centuries.
